On Wednesday 9 October, TRO hosted a panel discussion in collaboration with POINT3 Wellbeing, exploring mental health and wellbeing in the workplace in support of World Mental Health Day.
The theme of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Day was suicide and suicide prevention. Every year close to 800,000 people globally take their own life and there are many more who attempt suicide (Samaritans Suicide Statistics Report, 2019). Every suicide is a tragedy that affects families, communities and has long-lasting effects on the people left behind.
With stats indicating that the role of the event planner has consistently been voted 6th most stressful profession in the world, (The Annual Career Cast Survey, 2019) and 67% of people believing that a company’s pro-active stress management approach will impact their future job choices (Stress Matters, 2019); this is a topic that needs to be understood better and discussed more by the event industry to ensure its future success.
The panel provided an opportunity to raise awareness of the fact that we all have mental health and should advocate against the stigma that surrounds mental health issues in the workplace and beyond. Hosted by Sarah Mayo – Co-founder of POINT3 Wellbeing and graced by some amazing speakers and experts:
